Spread The Word To End The Word

The Special Olympics and Best Buddies International are gearing up for the annual Spread The Word To End The Word Campaign.

This 60-sec video clip shows just how prevalent the R-word is in mainstream media...take a look at this collection of TV shows and movie clips:

and then there is this clip from Rob Johnson of CBS News. I loved what he said and how he said it. My favorite quote from this clip, "You think you're being clever and hip when you use the R-word, but you're not, you're just being ignorant."

Please add your own pledge to eliminate the use of the R-word in every day speech.

LOVED that second clip. That's what I say to my friends. I'm sorry but we go to an ivy league university, and if the R word is the only word you can come up with to say what you need to say? Then I don't know how you got into this school to begin with. We read all the great classics of literature, so don't tell me you can't think of another word. PICK ANOTHER WORD.

Thanks for posting - I appreciated the second clip too.

So many people use this word without intending harm. They don't know how a part of me sinks inside when I hear it. I think I need to put this campaign on the table for people to become aware...before they use it in casual conversation.

I definitely like how the newscaster put it. It's a word but it's a word with power to hurt. You might think you sound cool but you don't.
